Biochem on the DAT

I searched for the answer to this question but found no previous thread with a direct answer,

I am looking on taking the DAT this January, and have taken Bio, Chem, O Chem, and Micro Biology already. How much material will i be missing out on since I have not taken bio-chem? I am taking a kaplan course and have also gone over some major pathways in micro (krebs and all that good stuff). I just want to know if not taking bio-chem before the DAT is devistating, or if i can "somewhat" easily learn the material needed from bio-chem on my own and through kaplan. Thanks.

If you haven't taken biochem, I think you'll be at a disadvantage for the questions dealing with "experimental biology" as listed by the DAT syllabus on the ADA website.

If you haven't taken biochem, then you probably wouldn't recognize a question being specifically biochem. Biochem is just a detailed look at cell/molecular bio with a little chem thrown in. You probably have been introduced to most of these topics in your basic bio and chem classes. I agree with poc91nc that you may have a little trouble with the experimental bio questions, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just research these topics on your own and you should be fine. I wouldn't delay taking the DAT if you are ready just because you haven't taken biochem.

I agree with poc.

However, the biochem at my school (which I've taken) had little to none in terms of experimental bio.

It focused on pathways. For the questions that I've seen popping up regarding experimental bio, a cell bio class or molecular bio class would be most applicable.

Overall, I think you can manage.

well my concern was if i took a bio-chem course this semester, i would most likely spend a good amount of time studying for the course which i could use studying for the DAT. i was just wondering, as an isue of time, whether or not it would be in my best interest to take it.
...definitly am going to take it before dental school w/o a doubt, but if possible, DAT takes priority
