Hi everyone!

I can either take CHM3218 which is Organic/Biochem 2 or BCH4024 which is Introduction to Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. The general take on these classes is that the orgo/biochem 2 one is more mechanism based rather than brute memorization and is taught by a fairly good teacher. Intro to biochem, however, is supposed to be straight up memorization and the teacher is supposedly horrible. I have done very well in Orgo I/II and will be a TA for II next semester but I also have a good memory so I'm stuck on which one to take.

Which one is looked more favorably on the by adcoms? Do both meet the requirements of all schools?

Thanks! 🙂

I don't think it really matters that much.

If you need some extra-padding for your BCPM GPA, I'd take the "easier" one.

If you have a sincere interest in it, than take the more challenging one.

From your description, CHM3218 sounds like organic with really big molecules and complicated reactions (think ochem 3: biochemistry). BCH4024 sounds like the standard biochem that everybody takes.

Did you like ochem?
