Ok, so my major requires Biochemistry Lab (3 hrs) which is seperate from Biochem Lecture (4 hrs). The lab requires that Biochem I Lecture should be either taken as a pre-requisite or co-requisite. I'm taking Biochem I Lecture next this fall but not sure if I should take the biochem Lab as well at the same time. For those who have taken the biochem lab, do you recommend taking it at the same time as the Biochem I lecture or after taking the Biochem Lecture? Btw, I'm also taking physics II (calc-based) lab this fall as well.

(Next spring I'll be studing for mcat so I want a light schedule. My plan is to take genetics, biochem II lecture, some upper level bio elective, and some upper level free elective).

Thanks.

Usually the labs are required to be taken with the lecture because they coincide. The material that you cover in lecture is further observed during lab. I suggest you take both concurrently. If you take lab at a different time, per say the next semester, you may not remember all the lecture material you covered. I had taken biochem with the lab and it helped to take it together. My opinion 😀

You should be fine taking the lab next semester. The only negative, as with most upper level labs, is the lab reports. Make sure you budget your time!

My schedule for next semester is:

Biochem Lec I
Calc-based Physics II Lec
Phys II Lab
Biochem Lab
Some other upper level elective.

So, that's a total of 14 hrs. I think I'll have sufficient amount of time even though I'm taking two labs.

I don't know how it is at your school, but at my school the biochem lab reports took a HUGE amount of time. The longest was 22 pages, and that was being concise, not adding a bunch of BS for extra length. To be honest, I don't think taking the biochem lab after the lecture would have made hardly any difference. You could even wait a year and take in the Fall of 2010, and I think you would be fine.

So I guess I'll just take the biochem lab concurrently with the lecture since it doesn't matter whether I take the lab with the lecture or seperately, like in spring.

-Disregard the angry face since I don't know how to get rid of it after I accidently put it.

My biochem lab was incredibly time-intensive. The last lab report was around 25 pages and that wasn't even the only one. The differences between this lab and physics II were staggering.

For my school, the BCHM lab was geared mainly around enzyme kinetics, which unfortunately is usually the second half of Biochem 1 classes. The first usually being DNA and such. But if your school allows you the option of taking them concurrently, it is definitely possible and as long as you put it work should not be a problem.

oh ok. So, I get that it's definitely possible to do well in biochem lab even without some knowledge about Biochem I lecture.
