biochemistry second semester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Drop or work my ass off to get a B-, please help

Do you know what went wrong (can you fix it)?? Is that grade a raw score (will it be "curved"?)? 😕

I got what I thought was a terrible score on my first pchem midterm, but the professor changed it to an A. 😳

This is unbelivable. I have no choice but to continue Biochem. Right now I have 15 credits. Biochem-5 credits, Physics-4 credits, English Literature- 4 credits, and Research- 2 credits. If i drop biochem, I would be down to 10 credits which would disqualify my financial aid package (I go to a really expensive school). I killed my dreams of going to medical school with this one exam and I am ****ed for the rest of my life.

What is your GPA right now? Bust your a** and get the highest grade you can. A single class did not and will not kill your chances to be a doctor on its own...

my gpa right now is a 3.44 which is crap

No offense, but you're not exactly sailing along smoothly... You can't really afford to go down. Seeing as how you can't drop and seeing how it's a 5 credit class, I encourage you to stop posting on this forum and start studying.

What's the class average? You can probably work hard and bring it up to at least a B.

I concur. If you are to be a doctor, there are harder trials ahead.

-drop if possible
-if not, get A on the final
-if final grade C or lower, retake class (it won't replace your grade, but it looks better than leaving it as a C unless you get an A in a similarly-challenging class to demonstrate that you can handle med-school courses)

Another option: See if you can add more research hours. I know that I've added hours late into a semester before. Will you have to bust your ass to make up the hours? Yes, but its way better than a terrible biochem grade

It really sounds like you need to change up your study habits. Search for some threads on it, good advice can be found.

If I were you I'd drop. 3.44 get that up son!

I could increase my research hours to 4 credits and drop biochem and have a 12 credit semester. Should i do this? I would pretty much end up with an A, A, and A/B if I did this. If i keep biochem, the most likely result would be C/D, A/B, A, A.

Probably your best bet in all honesty. I think if you want to be competitive, any grade that will hurt your GPA will not be as bad as a withdraw. See if you could talk to the professor and what they say. How many withdraws did you have in the past btw?

please help

How many previous W's do you have?

>4 for no health or other concern, then I'd just stick it out and work really hard.

But are you sure the world is ending after just one test? I usually have one bad test grade in most my classes, and it's always brought up by the end when i realize I have to work on it more.

Doesn't matter how many W's you have. Drop it. An "F" is much more egregious than a 10th W.

I would do this if I were you.. maybe spend time doing some ECs the rest of the semester. You don't wanna torpedo your GPA with a D in a BCMP class.

True-- especially since it's a 5-credit course.

I'd still try and shoot for a better grade, but that's just me.

If I drop before this Friday, I can drop the course without getting a W. It would be like I had never even taken it.

I think I will drop biochem and add two more credits to research. This is so embarrassing .

I am failing biochemistry. I got a 54 on my first exam. Should I drop the course? I have until this friday to drop. I dont know what to do help.
You're lucky you can drop after seeing your first exam score. In my school, I have three days to drop.
