Does anyone know where I can take biology over the winter break? I need to fulfill BIO I before June. Anyone know where I can take it concurrently with BIO II. Is it bad (difficult) to take it concurrently with BIO II? Can I just use MCAT books to study for it without actually having to take the course and still do well on the MCAT? I know its a prereq for med school but can a person just study it on their own and still do well on the MCAT?

Before taking the mcat the only bio I had taken was one quarter of physio and AP bio in high school. I just studied on my own and ended up getting an 11 in the bio section. Had I taken more bio classes before the mcat I probably would have done better, but you can still get a solid score studying on your own. Remember that the MCAT tests very little actual information. It's more a test of your ability to think critically, understand passages, and a test of your stamina. Honestly, if you took AP Bio, AP Chem, and AP Physics in high school, you're probably only lacking organic chem when it comes to (the majority of) the science background for the MCAT.

I just used my AP Bio credit, and didn't take any other bio classes before the MCATs. I got a 12 on BS.

I don't think any accredited university would offer a bio course over winter break. It would also be a good idea to take it in spring. If you got a good professor, it makes the MCAT materials much easier to digest.

And as the people above says, you can do independent study and get a sweet score. But the scope of the MCAT is really limited, so it won't prepare you as well for med school curriculum as a good year of bio classes.
