  1. Pre-Dental
Hi,
do you think that students interested in dentistry should still apply for research internships in science and engineering in addition to gaining experience at hospitals/shadowing etc. I am intersted in applying to the SUMR biomedical research internship at umdnj/stratford. One of the essay questions asks me to describe my biomedical goals? So i'm saying that i want to pursue my career in dentistry. Isn't dentistry also related to biomedical sciences. Do biomedical careers entail professions such as those of chemists and basically people who do resesarch and work in labs? Does anyone think that saying that 'i wanna be a doctor' would nullify my application or reduce my chances of getting in? i'm confused.....😕

I don't see you getting an engineering internship without being an engineer.

Go for it. I do not believe it would make you ineligible...however, make sure you say something along the lines of you want to do biomedical research in the field of dentistry or be involved in research and teaching. Biomedical scientist have been known to create tools that have enhanced the field of dentistry such as the probe(forget the first name of it...it gets deep under the gum line to do deep cleanings). I met the man who created it. It was an honor. either way go for it. Doctors can also be researchers at some point in their career. Say something along the lines of you would like to practice but also at some point of ur career you would like to discover something that could enhance the field of dentistry. ...i dunno..good luck
