Hi guys, Please post here if you have applied to this program, or already completed it. I just applied after not hearing from baylor postbacc predental program. I hope I get into the Biomedical program at UT dallas, however, I'm not sure how competitive it is, I know as long as you have a 2.5 or above you have a good chance. Could others who have gotten in give me an insight. Thank you!

Hey drgurl,
I just have a question, I am moving to Texas after my graduation. I am wondering how many SMP or post-bac programs that are in TX?

Baylor has their postbac and UT Dallas has this one. These are the only two for predent?

Hey I applied last year and I did not get accepted to it. According to Scott, who was the one in charge of the program I believe last year, it was really competitive. I had a 2.84 and a lot of extra curricular and what not. I was kind of baffled when I didn't get accepted bc I thought the purpose of the program was to help those with lower gpa's get into professional schools so I figured gpa wouldn't be the main factor.

Oh really? wow I'd be so disappointed, because this was my plan B..Do you know when you applied, are you sure it wasn't some other factor such as applying late? I also thought that this program is for those who want to improve their gpa or just complete pre-reqs.

These were the only two postbacc programs I know of myself, but I'm sure there are others.

Ya I think the only other factor could have been applying a bit late but the thing is that Scott actually flat out told me that it would be a waste of my time to apply again unless I took more upper-div science courses and got better grades in them. I was a bio major so I certainly did not lack in the amt. Of upper div. Bio courses taken. I'm not trying to discourage you but just be aware of the competitiveness. You should look into the gms master's program at Boston U. A friend of mine is going to d school there right now and said it's a really good route to go bc apparently you are guaranteed an interview at BU if you maintain a 3.2 gpa or something like that.

I did it... good program, its definitely much more competitive now. I'm definitely grateful towards it 😀

yeah, thats what i heard too but I think it costs around $50k.
If you ever do it, make sure that you perform well. Otherwise, you have to find some way to pay for that $50k.

Okay well thanks so much! it definetly prepared me mentally for what to expect, and the program at BU, is it for in state residents or open for everyone, I guess i'll look into that aswell.

No, it's open for all I'm pretty sure bc my friend said that someone from UT is in it right now. It's also extremely competitive but at least you are guaranteed an interview through that program.

Whoa, you had a 2.84 and got into san antonio a year later? If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in that year?? I always thought SA was pretty hardcore about GPA

i just took 2 semesters worth of informal post-bacc of pure upper div. bio courses and did well. I also got a research job, I don't know if that helped me any. I don't know how I got accepted, to be quite honest, i guess i'm just extremely fortunate.

he's also really really good looking and is very jacked.

as far as the BU gms program. you take some classes (physio, biochem, microbio) with the dental students. the grade cut offs are lower for the gms students. I think an 85 is an A- and a 75 is a B. Something like that. Anyways, it is definitely competitive to get into I hear and it's also very expensive. But if being a dentist is what you want, an additional 50k will be worth it. I think 11 or the 13 gms students got into BU last year. I know another 12 or 13 got interviews this year and almost all get into BU. Also, if you go the gms route, you don't have to retake those classes your first year. Which means, your first year is a joke compared to everyone elses.

Did you enroll in this program at BU?, would you say it's too late to apply, because I know the deadline is April 30th, and I am just now finding out about it.

No, I wasn't in the program. But there are about 11 dental students in my class that did the gms program last year. I also have a friend that's currently in it that takes classes with us. I posted pretty much what I know from them. I'd call BU and find out if you are seriously interested.

Don't know if this is right, but the guy that's currently in it said they told him around 350-400 applied and they accept around 15. Like I said, I'd call and ask.
