Okay, so I'm trying to get involved in some research.. particularly something somewhat related to medicine. The only problem is, I've took no biology courses yet and I'm in my sophomore year. The first biology course I take is molecular biology, and its next semester. All the positions I'm considering and am interested in require some biology experience.... and for me that comes from my AP Biology class in high school...

I'm a biomedical engineering major, and was just curious to see how many other universities have a similar curriculum.. one that involves taking physics/chem/math in the first year and then ochem in sophomore year and bio starting spring of sophomore year... Just seems weird to me..

I want to do some research 🙁.

That does sound very odd. LOL and here I am trying to go for a BME and taking bio courses already.

it's kind of unusual, but not unique. UC Berkeley's BioE (and actually, all their biology majors) generally don't take general biology until sophomore year because their Bio 1A has a ochem prerequisite.

in any case, you don't have to follow the college curriculum exactly as long as you know your requirements and get them fulfilled. I'm a sophomore and am taking two upper division biology classes, and took a physiology class last year- I just took these classes instead of other classes on their "suggested curriculum" (like my breadth classes)

I was actually considering that, but I realized that the molecular biology class I'm taking actually requires chemistry [thus I couldn't take it freshmen year...] and one of my other courses [electric circuit theory], requires me to take engineering mechanics... And then both ECT and mechanics are pre-requites for the bulk of the junior classes... So I have to follow their suggested curriculum.... Just sucks lol...
