Hello forum!
Has anybody had experience with classifying biophysics with AACOMAS?
I am trying to use my biophysics class (offered through the physics department, with a physics course code) for satisfying my physics requirement.
I know that in AMCAS biophysics is in the biology category...however, I won't be applying to MD schools.

I am hoping that this wouldn't be a problem.
For my physics requirements I would have:
General Physics w/lab 4 credits
Biophysics w/lab 4 credits

So...that equals the 8 credit physics requirement for DO schools.

If Biophysics is a biology catalog course, or if it is offered through its own department, it will not fulfill any of the 8 semester hours physics requirement at DO schools. But, Biophysics is a great subject with a lot learning opportunity. As an allopathic med-school admin, I look for it on transcripts.

Thank you for your response! It's great to see responses from admin on here. My biophysics is NOT a biology catalog course NOR was it offered through its own department.

It was offered through the PHYSICS department, with a physics course code.

It was part of the pre-med curriculum at my school (they offered biophysics instead of general physics II).

Do you still think I am out of luck? :'''(

You know, that's a great question. I'd ask each school's admissions office as well as the AACOMAS office. Some schools might be cool with it, some schools might be more strict. Only one way to find out.

That may work-- but remember, not all physics course fulfill the requirements either. You should contact two or three schools to find out; just call the addmissions office.
