So, I decided to transfer to a university that is closer to my home (20 min commute) compared to my current university (2.5 hour commute, one way). Long story short, I got all of my 90 credits transferred over, and will still graduate by next year. So no repitition of a year. The problem is that, Ill still end up doing a 5th year due pre-reqs being repeated. So, the problem is that my professor just offered my a paid research job starting this fall at my current university, she doesnt mind the fact that I am attending another univerisy and is frankly fine with it, but the problem is the timing. Due to my current schedule at the new univeristy, i might end up having to not be able to make the commitment to my prof so what shoudl i do?

Should I just accept the job, stay at my current university (not transfer) graduate, and than do some SMP or post bacc to raise my GPA OR Transfer over, do the 2 years (with the repeated science reqs)

The reason why I didnt mention 2 years with my old univeristy is because they have some ******ed system where you are on a waiting list for a science course (due to a clash of majors and faculties for me, I cant take science faculty courses) until 2 weeks into the fall semister WHEREAS in the new univeristy I just have to wait till a certain date.

You have been driving a total of 5 hours a day to go to school? And want to continue doing that for a job?

I would look for another job at your new university, even if its not research related, or volunteer in a lab if you do not really need the money and just want to do research.

If I misunderstood this, I think we are going to need some more info one what your cGPA and sGPA are, what courses you plan on retaking, if you are aiming for MD or DO (prob DO if you are retaking courses), and a clearer explanation of this 2 weeks waiting time? I'm so confused 😕

My GPA is around a 3.0. So Yes, Im primarily pursing a DO route unless I pull of a 40 on the MCAT. My ECs in terms of clinical work is somwhat volunteering, 150+ hours shadowing, 500+ hours volunteering at hospital, 2 research jobs (1 in the fall, and 1 with a neurologist I have been working with for the past 3 years). On top of this I am going get more active at uni.

The 2 week period is essentially that 2 weeks from the 1st day of Fall semester, the science faculty hands out the remaining spots left in courses to people in the waiting lists. So for example there are 10 spots remanining in Physics 1 by around Sept 17th, the faculty of scince will THAN go to the waiting list. So, i can apply 6 months earlier and still not going on, hence the reason why i wanted to transfer in the 1st place.

Okay... not exactly what I asked. Lets start with these questions and then I'll try again. (I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to understand the whole situation)

1) Are you currently driving 5 hours to and from school everyday or are you living on campus and just don't want to be 2.5 hours away from your parents home?

2) What classes do you plan on retaking and how long do you think they will take to complete? a year, two years, a year and a summer, etc.?

3) Are you taking the job for the money or a research experience?

1. Currently, commuting on a bus for 5hrs.
2.1 extra year, I havent taken Orgo yet due to the system of my current university. (Physics I retake)
3. Research experience, the money is just an added bonus.

1.) Don't do that anymore, seriously.
2.) That's fine and take upper level bio courses to make up for the lower GPA.
3.) This late in the game don't worry about research, bring that GPA up! 🙂

😱 The traditional wisdom for commutes is that it should never be more than an hour one way. Fix that.

K. IMO I would say ditch the research and go to the new school for the following reasons:

1) Its insane (IMHO) to waste 5 hours a day to commute to school or a job.
2) You need the courses and the only way to guarantee you get them is to go to the new schools with the messed up system your current schools has.
3) While DO schools probably look favorably upon research, its by no means needed, and you already have research.

EDIT: See what happens when you provide the needed details, you get answers lol

Yea, thanks guys so much. I pulled off a 3.5 third year, and 4.0 in the summer and will hopefully get 4.0 straight the next 2 years.

I have talked to my professor, and she is very comfortable with me coming in whenever (giving me the keys to her office), so the scheduling is not a conflict anymore. I did try to switch out to the university beforehand but was admitted into a program i was reluctant to join.
