So I just got an extremely welcome interview request from Yale ... that began with the sentence: "I am writing to applicants who have not responded to interview invitations that were sent prior to January 1. We are concerned that you might not have received the original e-mail, which is copied below."

I never got the e-mail. Anyone else have this happen to them? I'm just hoping (perhaps wishfully thinking) that my non-receipt of this important bit of information hasn't totally compromised my chances of getting into Yale.

hmm... sounds weird. that sucks! but hey, at least they realize you may not have gotten the first invite. what sort of e-mail are you using. sounds like someone messed up, either them or your email provider. it may not affect your chances since they are non-rolling and their notification date isn't for a while.

When I received my invite from Yale, they mentioned that it was the second time they were attempting to contact us ('us' being a group of students with Hotmail accounts). If you have a Hotmail account, that may be the answer to your question. I still don't know what it is/what it was about Hotmail that prevented us from receiving the first attempt, but needless to say, I was happy to get an interview invite at all.
So I guess this is a piece of advice to all of those future applicants: it might be worth creating an email account at a site other than Hotmail. I have since switched to Fastmail (http://www.fastmail.fm) which is another free service with no banner ads that also allows you to check your Hotmail acount using it. A last piece of advice, avoid any confusing characters in your email address (my email has two underscores in a row and although I noted this on all of the secondaries I filled out, schools still messed it up; I would wager that having capital O's and 0's in the same address is also confusing).

Congrats on the invite. I'm not sure what, if any, bearing it can have on your potential acceptance seeing as how Yale makes one big batch of decisions which get sent out in mid-late March.

If you had no chance now they wouldn't have bothered reinviting you. Of course, if they had nothing else to do that day and were possessed of a mean streak, wanting to toy with you......that would be different. Why can't you accept that they are still interested in you?

The e-mail address on my application is my hospital-based e-mail address ... I've never had e-mails get misdirected before, and I don't have any spam filters or anything either.

Hmm. The plot thickens. In any case: better late than never, especially with non-rolling admissions 🙂

Thanks!

McTaggart,

I just got the same email you did. I have an email address from my college but in October it was full for a few days and I didn't realize it so I thought I might have missed some interview invites because I missed a bunch of other stuff. I wanted to call but they can't give you any info over the phone so it was useless. I don't think this will hurt our chances. They aren't rolling and they're still interested in us and we still have the same numbers in our apps. Plus this way we'll be fresh in their memory when they make a decision. Could work out quite well. Maybe I'll see you there....

Same thing happened to me, with my AOL account. It makes me wonder if I missed anything else....

Anyone talk to anyone at Yale? Did they give any explanations or say whether it happened to a lot of people? Maybe it was a problem on their end.
