I'm currently a 2nd year medical student looking for a smartphone to use when I start my 3rd rotations this July. I was wondering if anyone here uses a blackberry on rotations and if they like it or not? Please let me know what you like about it, how's the selection of software (free and paid) and if you've had any bad experiences or know of any reasons why someone would not like using a blackberry.

This also applies to anyone who knows someone that uses a blackberry, and if they've told you anything about using a blackberry on rotations. Thanks.

there's a Windows Mobile skyscape crack.
that was enough for me to decide to get a Windows smartphone.
if you get a touch-screen windows mobile phone, you can even make your phone look like an iphone, with a skin.

blackberry was crappy.

A non blackberry PDA was useful during third year mainly because my school's library had random apps site licensed for Windows Mobile (Current Consult Medicine, Surgery). I managed to obtain the WM version of Uptodate so I could use that anywhere as well (our hosp has UTD accessible if you are on their LAN but signal was kinda spotty). That was a big plus in terms of reading. Hadn't even considered a blackberry until this year.

Fourth year i switched over to blackberry. mainly because I was OCD about interview emails. everybody hyped up the fact that you have to reply ASAP to get dates. So...what better way than a crackberry lol. It's a stupid reason to get it, in hindsight. Ended up selling my PDA to another student because i hated the weight vs the blackberry though and didn't want to carry both.

It...really....is addicting though to have 24/7 email access though :/ They don't call it crackberry for nothing.

I'm on the Pearl. Formfactor is great. This thing fits into any pocket unlike my old PDA (had an Axim). Goes whereever I go. After the firmware upgrade (avail on tmobile's site) things are really stable. Many more of my classmates went with Treo's or other smartphones with WM installed. Software is definitely less developed for the BB and people were just happier with WM.

Had I found a reliable crack for skyscape progs, i might have stuck with a WM device...

push email is now available on treos (google chatter mail)

...bah....

oh well...i'm on contract with the BB...can't change anything now :/
