If I know I want to do my residency at NYP Hospital Cornell, and then probably go on to MSKCC, is it stupid to go to Columbia P&S for med school over Weill Cornell? Am I hurting my chances of getting a Cornell residency by going to Columbia first?
Cornell Admissions Office knows that Cornell used to be my first choice--a failry important trustee type wrote a letter to them saying so. If I turn them down, will the fact that I did so after saying they were my first choice follow me to residency matching and blacklist me?
Thanks!

I remember someone said that they did the exact thing you mentioned to NYU and he is now doing his residency at NYU. So I guess there's really no blacklisting or anything like that. Be nice and write a letter explaining your change of heart if you feel so inclined.

No, but with a caveat.

In terms of being blacklisted - no. No residency program director is going to access your med school admissions file, and even if they somehow knew that you turned them down they aren't going to care.

It is generally easier to get a residency spot at your home school than a similarly-ranked school elsewhere, so you may have a slightly better shot at getting a residency at Cornell if you're a student there. However, there are ways (e.g. away rotation) that you can level the playing field somewhat if it comes to that.

This is a pretty minor issue - don't let it be your deciding factor.
