So, this is during 3rd year med school. Inpatient psych. I seriously can't do this one total justice because, well, you just had to be there....
Inpatient psych unit, total lockdown. Mostly schzophrenic/phreniform/oid patients. Some bipolars and who knows what else.
It was a weird scenario for the poor patients. We'd have a super small little "interview" room, maybe 10 x 6ft, no joke. And, the med students (we had THREE), one resident, and the attending would all be sitting OPPOSITE from the patient.
So, we'd all meet in the room and the resident would brief the attending on the status of the patient. We had one dude, Michael, who was 28 (you remember this stuff) and a schizophrenic. Recently hospitalized and he was the kind of guy that you could see being pretty cool if not for his terrible illness. The dude had some charm. He had some charisma, but was clearly sick as well which was sad. Life ruining illness. A decent looking guy. Probably could have been popular with the ladies in another life....
So, we're sitting there one day and the attending (dude from Pakistan who was a good guy but maybe a little too serious for the job) is interviewing the patient. Michael would regularly change the subject and say some really random stuff.
Well, we're in the middle of interviewing the patient, asking how he's doing, asking about yesterdays "thoughts" and behaviors etc. etc. Only weird sh.t that psych does basically. All compounded by the "trial" type scenario with six people staring at the poor patient seated across from us.
Anyway, all the sudden Michael says....(no sh.t it was just like this) "you just can't handle it". The attending says "what Michael? what did you just say". He says again, "you can't handle it!!" Then, almost as if reading from a script, the attending says "What can't we handle".
Michael says "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH"!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
I lost it. Right there and then. Friggin hilarious. Like I said you kind of had to be there.....
Anyway, Blade's avatar reminded me of that story......
