Hello SDN,

That's my situation. I'm partially blind in one eye where I can see/recognize objects, but not make out the details (my other eye's just fine).

Should I even begin to aim for Pathology/Cytology? Regarding microscopes, a single eyepiece is no problem, but can I make it without being able to (effectively) use a stereo/dissecting microscope?

I agree the microscope work shouldn't be an issue. But grossing could be tricky if your depth perception is lacking. How are you with a sharp knife or scalpel? It's not surgery, but some of it requires some hand-eye-coordination.

Grossing, I hadn't thought of that. Admittedly, my depth perception for fast-moving objects is slightly beyond terrible, but I don't think I'd have trouble so long as I was within arms length and working at a comfortable pace.

This could work - thanks for the hope you two!
Maybe the only thing I ruined was my baseball career 🙄

Some of the greatest pathologists in history used but one eye. One alive today is incredibly famous, but i will not reveal his name. Gordon Vawter, the great pediatric pathologist, used but one eye. That should not dissuade you. What should dissuade you is the high likelihood of unemployment.

Go for it man. I've got a hearing loss and it hasn't screwed me. I doubt you will have a problem grossing, half the stuff you could probably gross blind folded. When you get out, many places have PA's to do most of the dirty work. I don't know how it would affect you doing FNA's and BM, they really don't seem to do many BM anymore since Heme/Onc can bill for it. Hope it works out. :luck:
