I've never done this one, but I know the AHA has an online BLS

hmmm interesting. I know AHA does recerts online, but I wonder ...

I read the FAQ's:
I've noticed other services offering certification endorsed by American Heart Association. Why aren't you?

It's important to understand that American Heart Association is not a government agency. Despite what you may read in some of our competitors' claims, American Heart Associaton does not endorse, sanction, nor approve any form of BLS certification which is not obtained through an AHA-accredited proctored classroom facility. We strongly advise you consult with your local American Heart Association chapter before submitting your non-refundable payment.

How is your certification different from American Red Cross or American Heart Association certificate?

The detailed, fully-illustrated lessons in our exclusive online program adhere to the same nationally-recognized BCLS guidelines as those conducted by ARC and AHA. All rescue techniques demonstrated in the courses meet and often exceed minimum requirements established by most States' licensing boards and OSHA. CPRToday! has been consistently recognized as the only valid online alternative to ARC and AHA classes.

So pretty much you aren't certified by red cross or AHA (which I don't know how that floats in hospitals but most positions I've seen stated Red Cross or AHA cert).

I got my Healthcare Provider BLS through a hospital community outreach. I suggest you go to AHA's website
http://www.americanheart.org for a list of providers near you.

This online cert is good for two years ... but depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking to get a job with it, it will depend on your employer and if you want an EMT license, they may require AMA or RC certs.

I like the AMA cert better than the RC because you are certified for two years vs. one (less payments over the time period) plus they had the healthcare provider cert. 👍

Just my two cents.

Also, be careful where you get your BCLS card. I have to recert my paramedic this year and there are very specific BCLS cards which are acceptable and anything else is not. CPRToday! is NOT on the list of acceptable BCLS courses. My point is that perhaps the medical school you may be attending won't accept this on-line course. Better to be safe and take the AHA course.

don't waste your money. you'll just have to do it again.

Unless you are doing it exactly two years before you will start med school, so that it will be valid until you start third year, I wouldn't bother. They made almost everybody re-cert at my orientation so that we would all be covered through second year and then could all re-cert together before third year.
