After a review, in truth, this is a rather inflammatory method of saying that chronic pain patients don't get better with injections. Of the studies they looked at, the average duration of pain in subjects was 46 months, almost 4 years, most with chronic axial back pain.
It is a position paper - 10 docs, including 6 docs who did injections, 8 methodoligists, and 4 chronic pain patients generated the consensus after reviewing the data.
They made guidelines based on the supposition that chronic pain patients when presented with an injection that they were told had little to no benefit and moderate to high risk of harm or burden would not want treatment.
I'm not sure who is doing the injections but the risks of them are not moderate or high when I do them.
