Scam.
When you get done you're gonna be hella smartI just signed up for the board certified dispensing pharmacist exam, the BCDP. Anyone took it already? I heard you can either bring in your own counting tray OR spatula, but not both.. dang, gona be a tough one.. Oh well, gona go practice some more, 5.. 10....15....20...25...30.. Catch y'all later.
Since USP <797> was adopted ten years ago, compliance has been spotty and training personnel has been subject to great variability. In 2012, seventy-six patients died of fungal meningitis due to inadequate practices related to sterile compounding at the New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts. Who do you want in charge of your cleanroom's batch level sterility and endotoxin testing? Someone who knows what to do when a sample tests positive for Exserohilum rostratum?
I feel that a credential like the Board Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist (BCSCP) is one way to show that you can practice this important part of pharmacy at an advanced level.
I feel that many of these certifications is just a way to prove what you already know.
I didn't NEED the BCPS, but I took it because I'm an RPh and had no intention of going back for PharmD - and a $600 exam vs 20-30k for the PharmD just so that on paper employers will believe I have a clue.
I was considering the BCPCP (compounding) because I've done a LOT of compounding (and actually worked for NECC's sister company Ameridose many moons ago).. and it seems strange, because it seems like there isn't enough to make up a 200 question exam.. but since my job is to be in charge of USP 797/800 and the certification is "out there" people will ask for it and consider you as more valuable with it.
I don't think it's true but it is the market of the day
