Does anyone know if the computer and paper version are going to be the same exam? Some people are saying that the computer version is suppose to be harder and I don't see how this would be fair.

As I understand the computer version is different. I have heard conflicting reports on harder versus easier. I have heard that the pool of questions for the computer is smaller, so the frequency of repeats tends to be higher, but it is harder to get info on past questions. There is plenty of info out there on the written. It depends on how you study I guess.

If they don't take any questions from old written board exams then I guess I'm screwed. Considering that all I'm using to studying are dental decks and old tests and dental decks are nothing but questions from old written exams. I payed an extra hundred dollars to screw myself. Great.

The computer version hasn't been around for long. There was a time when dental schools forced you to take the written, no exceptions. So there is little information about computer vs. written. I took computer to mimic my DAT experience...it was horrible....but click on ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd is far easier than bubbling in d d d d ....

So if the pass rate is 45 for each section, lets say, and you were to guess entirely on the exam.....lets pick D, lets say you should have 25 right without knowing a single question. Lets say you attending classes, did the decks once while watching Jay Leno and Conan I think that might increase your score another 20 or so questions. Technically, you will pass.

Regardless, I'm nervous. Fair enough.

Hey ScorpiORTHO,

Sorry, i didn't mean the computerized test was horrible, but studying for the DAT. I am taking the computerized for the part 1, I prefer computer since I'm infront of the computer all day, plus this is similar to the DAT since I'm taking it at the same place I took the DAT.

It was late at night and i was typing gibberish. I meant to say that its easier to type "DDDDDDDDD" instead of penciling in DDDDDDDD.

Regards,

Thanks for the clarification desi =)

I took the computer version. It took me 3 hours to finish the entire exam. It's worth the money just to get done and get out. I'd highly recommend it!

Thanks for sharing as not many have taken the computer based exam. Any info on the difficulty of questions, format, material etc. that you found in the computer based exam??

I would say that the computer exam would have probably been a lot easier than what I took yesterday!

For the record, it takes how much longer to finish the paper exam?

You're given 3.5 hours to complete each section (200 questions). There are 2 sections and you get a 1 hour lunch break in between.

You have to stick around longer because everyone starts the exams at the same time. At UDM, they started at about 9:00am and most people finished around 3:30 or 4:00pm.

I took the computer version. I studied the 2004 decks and old exams. That seemed to be enough.
