does the NBEO vary between states? I'm confused....

if I go to school in PR, do I take the boards for PR, or do I just chose the state i want to take boards for? how do you go to school in one area but work in another?

NBEO boards is to practice in the 50 states. I know you do not need to take the National Boards (NBEO) in Puerto Rico if you want to practice there. Just realize in Puerto Rico Optometrists cannot prescribe any medications. All they can do is prescribe glasses and contact lenses really.

Here are the basics:

There are 3 parts to the NBEO.
Everyone takes the same exams.
Part 1 during the 3rd year and Parts 2 and 3 during the fourth year.

Optometrists are licensed by each state individually.
All states require passage of NBEO Parts 1 and 2.
Many accept Part 3 instead of a state clinical exam.
In the majority of states if you pass all three parts and then a law test are you are licensed.

Some state still have their own written and/or clinical exams, but still require Parts 1 & 2.

The TMOD is a separate score, but part of Part 2.
