I am an IMG who messed up on step 1. Got an 80!
What are my chances of getting a path residency?

1) Are you a US citizen or have a green card?
2) Do you have any research (publications)?
3) Can you get a good path recommendation

1- I have the green card.
2- I have one publication in the US. I am the first author in that. I have done 4 months of research at Washington University in St. Louis.
3- I can get a recommendation from a pathologist. But from an atteding outside of the US.

You can match to community programs definitely and some university. It would be better to get a letter from someone in the US. Also you can try to do better on step 2.
Apply early. Try to have your step 2 finished and compensatory for your step 1 score.
If you can try and do a path rotation here (US) and get a letter. You can definitely find a residency. Just make sure you apply to multiple tier programs as well as community.
