I have a 31 avg over 15 practice test. Scoring as high as 36 on AAMC 11. I just got my score back from real test & made an 17. I know that I freaked myself out and all strategy went out the window on this test. If I decide to retake in Jan. & do well, will this 17 haunt me forever ? Have I sealed my fate for trying to get into a D.O. program with such a horrible 1st score ? I know I'll never be considered for a M.D. program again.

Wow, that sucks to hear. Were you sick on test day? I can't imagine such a large drop. Honestly, I don't know how the 17 will be viewed after you retake. If you score near your average the next time around, I don't think it will hurt you much. Adcoms will probably wonder what happened the first time around. That being said, you have no choice but to retake at this point since a 17 is not good enough even for DO.

Got super freaked out and developed a bad headache. Concentration was over with half way through bio.

Retake and score 30+ and you will be fine. Your future as a MD is no over by any stretch of the imagination as long as you break the 30 next time.

I agree with this poster! Making a low score does not mean you are done from being a MD! Plenty of people have very low scores and retake and redeem themselves! So to you my friend Retake! Practice Practice Practice with enough exams to try to calm your test day jitters! This seems to be your issue being that you avg 31 over all FL taken!! Keep studying and don't ever quit if being a doctor is truly what you want to be! You can do it!!!
