Is bond energy always positive??
If so, is it because bond energy is the energy required to break a bond and bond breaking is always endergonic?

Yes, breaking bonds is endothermic so bond energies are always positive values. Bond formation is exothermic and releases energy.

Yeah the confusion probably arises from the fact that oftentimes in chemical reactions you will end up with a set of lower energy bonds and thus the net reaction releases energy. But no matter what, you need to put energy in the initial bonds to break them.

Yes, but endothermic and endergonic are not the same thing. Endergonic refers to a thermodynamically unfavorable reaction. Just because you have to put in energy (which you could define as endothermic or endergonic), doesn't make the reaction endergonic; though it is necessarily endothermic.

hmm Okay. I thought the definition of endergonic was that requires energy ? Is it not?
