I know that this post is already in the Allopathic thread, but someone told me to put it here, sorry if i copied it i didn't know how to move it

Ok so I'm the type of person who isn't that good at cramming type of studying so I wanted to know it is possible to study for the steps while taking a course like for example gross anatomy during the school year???

Please help me with choosing the best textbook and review books to study from and edit my list thus far to see is it is reasonable....

Gross Anatomy
I'm using the book Snells clinical anatomy and Essential Clinically Anatomy in order to study or review for the steps I'll be using BRS Gross Anatomy sounds good? My plan is to read the books that I will be using to study for the steps once while taking the course and then a second time when studying for the steps is this a good idea?

So basically im looking for review books in the subjects listed below but not light books, instead heavy review books which can help me as a supplementary and give me an in-depth review from the start so I'll be ready when i hit the Kaplan and FA books.

Please guide me as to what the best books to buy for my circumstance??

these are the subjects for now

Physiology Textbook using is Guyton and review is BRS Physiology should I use both of these or is there a better text and review book.

Biochemistry- I have Harpers and Lippencotts but I don't have a review book yet please tell me which one i should get

Gross Anatomy Textbook is Snell's and Essential clinical Anatomy by Lippencotts and for a review book Im using BRS Gross Anatomy is that sufficient??

Embryology I have Keith L Moore as a textbook and as a review I have BRS Embrology is that a good choice

Behavorial Science - What is the best textbook and review book for the subject

Which review books are the best BRS, High Yield or Goljan's review series and for which subjects???

thanks

Did you try the search function?

Did you read any of the gazillion threads in the Step 1 forum about people's study strategies, WHAT BOOKS THEY USED, when they started studying, etc?

Did you see the thread about the Step 1 booklist?

Get back to me bro.

anyone else can someone please give me list of there book choices which suits my particular circumstance

While i understand you dont want to "cram" all the info, you should realize that the opposite is true too...too much information, in other words, too many books, too many details, can also be a bad thing..

PHYS-Guyton and BRS suffice
BIOCHEM-I hear Rapid review is very good
ANATOMY-What you are using is plenty
EMBRYO-Ive heard that high yield embryo is good
BEHAVIORAL-high yield series is good

If you are looking to stick with one series, i would pick a section in any subject, then compare between BRS, rapid review, high yield, etc.

Again, unlike undergrad where there was time to memorize all the little details, in med school sometimes its better to have a general understanding of the material and work from there. Best of luck, hopefully some of this was helpful.

I'm a little confused by your post. Are you a first year student or incoming student? If so, the advice I've heard from all the pros here is that really learning the material in the classes is key. So I don't think it's about buying the right books right now. Instead do as well as you can in the classes and worry about step 1 studying later. I'd also hold off on buying any books until you're actually in class.

I checked your post history and it appears that you are just beginning undergrad. In that case you shouldn't even be worried about anything having to do with med school yet...honestly Step 1 books would be way too advanced for you at this point, esp. since you haven't even taken the MCAT. I'd check back here when you are an MS-II, just worry about doing well in ugrad for now.
