hello...i was wondering if someone could tell me which would be the best book for preparing for the MCAT. Is Kaplan / Princeton Review sufficient? If not, which one(s) is the most widely used?
Thanks!

Youre going to hear a million different responses, depending on who you ask..."whatever works for you" is the best advice...I know EK books are great.

the best books, by far, are the princeton review books that come with their course. you can usually find them on ebay, if you don't wanna take the course.

Get EK verbal/and 101, EK Biology, and princeton review physical sciences from the princeton review course.

I thought the Kaplan books that came with the course were excellent. I also bought the Examcrackers 1001 que. book for physics, as I needed some extra practice questions. I really liked the 1001 book for extra practice, as the questions in my college texts tended to be more detailed/complex than what is asked on the MCAt. I'd be careful of some of the books sold at the bookstore...I bought the Barron's book to start studying before Kaplan started and I felt the review material was way more detailed than necessary and the practice questions were way too easy.

So, Is "CRACKING THE MCAT" by Flowers and Silver, but it says The Princeton Review on the Cover, actually NOT the same books used in TPR MCAT course?

Because I bought that book, but it seems like it's not the same as the ones my friends used for MCAT TPR course...

PLEASE HELP! I want the same books that they used in the course!! Can I find those in the bookstore?!?!?!!

"Cracking the MCAT" by Flowers and Silver with The Princeton Review on the Cover is NOT the same thing as the TPR MCAT course books.

It's not the same one that your friends have. I'm not saying that the Flowers and Silver book is bad necessarily, but it's NOT the same as the Princeton Review course books. [On a side note, the Kaplan Comprehensive Review is extremely similar to the Kaplan course review books. Also, it changes very, very little with each year. However, the course offers a lot of other practice materials, tests, etc. that are not in the comprehensive review.]

You cannot purchase the Princeton Review Course books in a bookstore. If you're looking for the books the only way to get them is to enroll in the course or get them from someone who took the course. I've seen the books and they're good--more than anything because of the practice materials (verbal workbook, science workbook, and practice tests A-D). The review books are excellent, but they're very comprehensive.

To see the difference between the two, click that link I have on my previous post.

There's a blackmarket on Ebay and on Wanted/For Sale forums that will save you major bucks. Legally speaking you can't sell the PR course books because the books are "for the exclusive use of Princeton Review course students, and [are] not legal for resale." I've seen them offered as "freebies" in auctions though (e.g. buy (Random MCAT/Premed thing) get PR books free). I don't know if that avoids the legal issue, but it might. Most people aren't too worried though...
