Hi everyone,

Just a quick question regarding the versions of various MCAT content books. What versions should I be buying for the following books?

A) Berkley Review General Chemistry (A seller wants to sell me the second most recent version, but apparently the most recent version has been updated to better reflect the changes that have been made to the MCAT. Do you recommend that I just purchase the newest version?)

B) TPRHL Science Workbook. Heard a lot of a great thing about this book? Do you recommend the newest 2013 edition? How far back can I go?

C) TPRHL Verbal Book. Seller has the 2011 edition. Will this suffice or should I go for a more recent version?

Regards,
Lunasly.

b. 2009 is fine. i know for sure that 2007 is ordered differently and has slightly fewer qs.
c. my 2009 version looks the same as my 2012 one. I don't think 2013's changed.

A) 2010 onward is still good imo
B) 2009 onward
C) Yes!

Good luck,

Thanks guys! Do you know which version of the tprh science workbook contains the advanced passages. The seller says his 2010 version doesn't have them.

2013 has the advanced passages.

random tidbit: i bought 2013 because it was $200, which was only $40 more than the 2012 version on ebay. i hope that provides a useful benchmark.

Hi Victoriah,

An individual selling me the 2010 version confirmed via screenshot that it also contains the advanced passages. Are you imying that the 2013 version has a few more of them?

I'm staring at the 2013 version right now (green cover). I don't have the 2010 one in front of me, but last time I checked, it was exactly the same, word for word. Only difference was a few typos.

Does anyone have any information on whether its worth purchasing the newest version of the TBR's Ochem book? They recently revised it.

Ive used the old version, and it is still as good as the new one. The new one is shorter not longer. Depends on how much more you have to pay to get the new ones.

I'd likely have to pay full price as I doubt I'd find someone who would be willing to just sell those books. However a friend of mine is willing to lend me his that is free of markings. Having a shorter book or at least one that is more concise might not be such a bad thing. You would still reccomend against it?

I spoke with the BR representative earlier today and they told me that there is an approx. 20% difference between the BR Ochem books (2012 revision vs. 2011). They said that the author took out some information, but also added a bit of information, too. They also claim that they removed passages that were no longer representative of the actual MCAT and added passages on material that we are more likely to see. I just feel like given that the test will be changing next year, this isn't a good time to be cheap. At the same instance, I don't want to spend $87 for books + shipping only to find that they are nearly exactly the same. Ochem 1 is my strongest subject (I'm a TA at my school), so the material isn't all that difficult.

I don't think I'm going to go purchase it, but I'm looking for any reason for why I should consider the newer revised version.

Thanks for the help.
