Can anyone suggest some good (text) books on this subject?

I am currently considering picking up Principles in Neurosurgery, eds. Setti S. Rengachary and Richard G. Ellenbogen. Any views on this text?

Any other suggestions?

Seems like a good general overview but it is pricey. The classic medical student neurosurgery book is Greenberg's Handbook of Neurosurgery...it's relatively inexpensive and thorough and it pretends to be portable.

The other classic, although very expensive, is Youman's Neurosurgery, a 3-volume set. Unless you're a resident you should probably hold off buying any neurosurgery texts (apart from maybe Greenbergs). Most residency programs have a book fund for residents to buy books.

Would be Netter's Atlas of Neuroanatomy. It's considered to be a bit expensive, given the detailed pictures, but provides excellent images of neuroanatomical parts.
