In the Lewis dot diagram for SF4, how many electrons are surrounding the central element?

The answer is 10. With the explanation "Sulfur has 6 valence electrons normally, and in SF4 would share an additional 4 electrons in each of the bonds with fluorine resulting in a total of 10 electrons."

Would it be wrong to think that each bond provides two electrons (4 bonds, 8 electrons) and that theres a lone pair on S, totaling 10 electrons? Or was I just lucky with the math?
