So I just tried out the first free passage of the DAT boot camp and I thought the RC test was pretty difficult. Wondering if anyone else tried it out. Seemed harder than Kaplan and CDR reading exams. Thanks.

Ya i tried it as well and i thought it was pretty challenging as well...I am the slowest reader and couldn't even finish the test on time...had to guess on the last few questions. Has anyone else tried the bootcamp reading? how similar is it to the actual DAT?

Ya these passages took me way longer than normal to read, and the questions types with two statements were very weird.

The passages are right in line with the passage length specified by the ADA (~1,500 words) and about scientific topics. (Page 4: http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_users_manual.pdf)

You'll definitely see more of those "both statements are true, both statements are false" and "statement is correct but reason is false" questions on the real DAT.

I agree, it was way too difficult. half the questions were 'the statment is correct and the reason is wrong.' what the heck!

It prepares you better and gets you accustomed to the kind of thinking needed for the RC.

Although, at least for my DAT, you may see very little of these types of questions.

Too be honest I rather be OVER-prepared than under-prepared. Those true/false statement questions are tough, but not impossible. If you can get through Bootcamp, then the actual DAT should be easier. I think that's the case with all the sections. If you get through Bootcamp, then you will actually feel that you are ready instead of fearing that the section might be too hard.

Averaged 22-24 on Kaplan Practice Tests for RC
Averaged 21-22 on Bootcamp RC.
Passages are about the same, the questions are just harder on Bootcamp. More of the statement T/F problems and detail questions are a little more obscure.

+1
I found the passages to be very similar with the real DAT. I had much more S&D though.

My DAT Bootcamp scores in order starting one week before I took the DAT were as follows:
16/18/19/20

On the actual DAT I got a 20 for Reading. Do not get discouraged! Work on whatever technique you are using and stick with that for the exam. Also, I found the DAT Bootcamp length to be correct but the level of difficulty of the passages was much easier on the DAT, especially for 2/3 passages. And like people said before me, there are more search and destroy questions on the actual DAT.

I accidentally skipped 5 questions and didn't notice until the end so I just had to guess on those 5 w/o even reading the question. So, words of advice: make sure to review all of your questions at the end of each passage!
