I have an older cousin who, according to family legend, was BORN with some teeth in her mouth. Can this actually happen? Is it a rare thing?
On top of that, because of coming into the world with teeth, she swears that she's lost her teeth twice? I was always told that you lose teeth ONCE, adult teeth come in and if those come out then no more will replace them, period! 😕 Is it really possible for a person to lose their teeth twice (thus in a lifetime having 3 sets of teeth)?
Thanks for any input.

I have heard about born with teeth stories quite a few times. Actually, your teeth are formed while you are still inside your mom, so, there is a possiblity that someone can be born with teeth. However, losing a tooth twice is something I never heard of. And I would not believe it until I see proof

neonatal teeth are rare.....but not unknown.

1 in 2000 newborns is the number popping in my head right now...

For what it's worth, my mother-in-law was born with her primary mandibular centrals...not supernumeraries, but the real things. Exfoliated them as normal at about 6 years old and erupted her permanent after that. So I guess it would be fair to say it does happen, but noe "extra" sets in her case.

I was just watching a history channel show that showed a tribe that killed a baby for being born with teeth, because it was "cursed". Also they kill the babies if their top teeth come in before the bottom teeth. Weird HUH?

Man if they could just go to dental school.
