Can any body tell me about the Jamaica Plain area in Boston? Is it a safe neighborhood? I am a female who'll be by herself doing an er rotation at BIDMC. I was wondering if it was safe to walk around in the evening (or day, for that matter) and if it was an area with good access to BIDMC. Thanks!

it really depends on where in jp. but honestly i wouldn't walk around too often by myself, as a woman, at night. during the day you are most likely going to be ok, though.

I agree that the location can be important. Some parts of JP are largely populated by young professionals/students, and some areas are also well-lit and near the main streets.

My guess is you'd want to be in a higher-rent section of JP. Anything underpriced in that area is probably suspect.

Stay west/north of the train tracks (washington st).

FWIW: I lived in Boston for several years but never in JP. Had friends there, however. Haven't been there in a few years so maybe things have changed a little.
