Boston Med TV show - wtf were they thinking?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wonder how they came up with that nickname (DOUCHE) for that surgical intern.....

That nurse and her constant gum chewing irritate the crap out of me. A) Gross and B) Unprofessional.

Unless of course she has severe halitosis. Then chew away discretely. 😛

In the latest episode they talked more about the nurse's love life than they did medicine.

She signed the waiver, she gets everything she deserves here.

You think she didn't have visions of 'Good Morning America' interviews in her head when she signed that thing?

The only difference between her and Pamela Anderson (Anderson got discovered when a camera picked her out at a football game and Pammy agreed to sign the waiver) is Pam has bigger...

marketing sense.

Her condo development in Ladysmith is turning out to be as big of a flop as her...

yeah.

You have to remember that these shows are made for laypeople and not people in the medical field. The same laypeople that watch Gray's Anatomy and think that that's what it's like to be a surgical resident and that everyone is sleeping with everyone. People are often far more interested in the drama-filled moments (i.e. the nurse's dating life) than they are in how she does her job. Plus the producers of the show have to put each character into a niche and the lead nurse's (amanda) niche is apparently "the attractive nurse that is passionate and successful in her work but is no successful in her love life" and then they go and find clips that fit this storyline.

As far as the "douche" surgical intern. I have to say that it's far to common. I've met many cocky surgical interns and many often act like this guy. The other surgical intern (the one working in the ED) was also a douche and had amazing bedside manner. I have to say that I love the short white coats of the interns in that hospital... gotta love that you're already out of med school and still look like a student.

Overall, the show is what you'd expect it to be.... a lot of melodramatic stuff and a lot of personal stories, while showing very little medicine. If you're a medical student or trying to become one and want to see more medicine, I'd suggest watching "Trauma: Life in the ER" on TLC" or other shows on Discovery Health channel and stick with this show when you want to have a relaxing time and not take it too seriously. Just my 2 cents.

I know, I've met far too many douchey surgical residents/interns working in the ED, it just gives the more down-to-earth/normal residents a really bad name, especially now that these douche types are being broadcast on national television.

Sorry to spoil your party, guys, but if this was a guy, nobody would be wisecracking about his looks or what to do or not do with him in bed. I know the reaction is probably gonna be "oh stop being so uptight, we're just horsing around"; No problem there, but until you are horsing around both ways, it's unfair.

Well, point out a male EM resident on the show and we'll start cracking on him too.

You limit yourself to the EM department when you fantasize/forumtasize about people of your preferred sex?

We were talking about the female EM resident, so 'to be fair' I figured we'd need to crack on a male EM resident. Don't want to be discriminatory in our bashing.

well they did have a bunch of murses on tonight. Of course, they were complaining about the residents, the "guests" in THEIR home. 🙄

just saw episode 1 after reading about it on this thread. Not the best publicity for that program and their residents in my opinion.

well, i don't blame them if they're working on a regular basis with some of the douche residents they've been featuring on this show. I'd hate them too.

I disagree. If they have such a problem with the residents (hell, they even were going off about how "one day they're not a doctor and then the next they are"; I mean come on, that's the same in any profession, including nursing), then maybe they shouldn't work in a teaching hospital.

I am obviously not there, but from an "outsiders" view, it seems like some residents all of the sudden become "know-it-alls" after they receive the M.D. I would trust a nurse over a new EM resident on many things. Obviously with time it will change. But I can see why a nurse would get aggravated.

To use a military equivalent, would you rather have a 2nd Lt straight out of OCS/ROTC or a battle-hardened Sergeant? The 2nd Lt is "technically" the leader, but it would be wise to listen to the Sergeant.

Thanks for the pre-med perspective.

That's a total straw man argument. I never said one thing about the nurses not being MORE qualified than these newly minted residents. I took issue with the fact that they are automatically complaining about these resident "guests" in their teaching hospital.

In my opinion, since they ARE the more qualified when the residents start, maybe they should stop having so much attitude and instead try working as a team, and help the residents.

There's something 'off' about her. I haven't placed my finger on it, but there's a screw loose somewhere.

She reminds me of a lot of the OB residents I worked with as a medical student, unfortunately. Super high maintenance and bitchy. I don't really know why so many of the OB residents seemed to be that way, but man, they really turned me off of their specialty (which I thought I was interested in before that rotation).

The way she runs down the hall (plus the aforementioned crazy OB stuff, but that run....yeesh)

haha still cute though, when she's not running. I even think the blonde cardiologist (dont know her name) is cute also
