Which school do you think have a strong clinical education and prepare student to become a GP? The tuition and living cost is similar. So, I guess the quality of clinical education will be my determining factor.

Even though I love redsox, I would go to NYU.That's me though =)

bump, anyone had the same dilemma ?

Yes, I am in the same boat. I've pretty much decided on BU, because it fits well into my long term goals. Apart from that, I thought NYU was way better. If BU were to charge a tuition that was significantly less than NYU, only then would it be a better option. Otherwise, I think the school is just OK. A lot depends on whether you like Boston or Manhattan. I don't like Manhattan, so that's another reason for why I'm going with BU.
I am yet to come across anyone who has given me a clear cut reason for why one school would be better than the other, apart from the huge patient pool at NYU.

Do mind share how Boston fits your long term goal?

I liked NYU more than BU from my time at both. BU does do much community outreach though while NYU does not do so much.

BU is a great school and located at a great location. Boston is a center of health education, so you'll find many chances to practise.

Well, I plan on moving to Dubai once I graduate. BU just opened up their dental school in the Dubai Health care City. Going to BU might allow me to get to know the 'important' people at the institution, and eventually get a job at the university hospital in dubai (which will open around 2011 or 2012).
This is all speculation, though.
Plus, I've paid my 3k deposit at BU, so that's another one of my concerns.
If I were you, I'd go to NYU, unless you really have an issue with a large class size and NYC.

I have interviewed @ both places. I would shoot for NYU. Thats my personal opinion.

NYU is also opening a campus in Abu Dhabi. I dont know though if it will have a dental school or a university hospital. I just remember my NYU interviewer mentioning it to me since i am middle eastern

Yes, it is. It's a liberal arts campus. At some point in time, I am sure they will open up a dental school. I discussed this with some people, and apparently, BU and NYU were competing for a dental school. BU offered less graduation requirements, which is why they were offered a contract. I am not sure how true this is.

tamkhan, did you calculate out how much you will spend in total to study at BU?

I haven't done any calculations, but it will be definitely less than NYU, not significantly less, though. Tuition is almost the same at both places, and living cots can vary depending on where you live, and what sort of lifestyle you have.
Just prep a list of pros and cons of both schools, and see if either one offers something above the other. It'll make your decision a lot easier.

BU has a huge problem with its patient pool, and Im not just saying that. One of my best friends is at BU Dental and he told me to run to NY. He literally has had to PAY people to go to him in order to fulfill the requirements. And the school itself, esp. for the high tuition, is kinda dingy and just old. The school is more interested in BU as an institution than on its students OR its faculty.
NYU may have a huge entering class, but many classes (i.e. anatomy) are broken up into groups of about 25 (I saw this firsthand in an active class there), so personally I dont care if the entering class is 1,000,000 as long as they have the installations and the faculty to back it up - and do they EVER. The school is awesome, the anatomy lab's 7mill plastinations alone (we saw then on the tour) are awesome - no facia and crap to deal with, and take it from me (I took anatomy in pre-med) they are a huge time-saver. The clinic is state of the art, huge patient pool, and although Ive seen a couple of posts of unhappy students, by and far most students I've met in AND out of the school are thrilled. Its large size and resources also gives it a lot of clout. NEVER MIND THAT ITS IN NYC!! - what else u want?
Hope this helps ;o)
