Know of any high functioning BP people who have accomplished alot? Like becoming a physician, or functioning well in comparable high stress fields?

Did Diane Sawyer really have BPD or was it just a transient reaction to the steriods she took?

Wouldn't a stressful field cause many decompensations in even a well controlled, compliant, educated bp person? Or is it possible to work around it?

In the hospital, when a nurse says a surgeon is BP, I dont know if he has been diagnosed or if that is her own diagnosis.

How pravalent is BPD in the medical field? I know it is not easy to track but there has to be lots of personal experience.

Thanks,
OB

Just to clarify, you mean Bipolar not Borderline right? BPD is usually the acronym used for Borderline PD. Just to confirm, I can't help with your question, sorry.

Bipolar Disorder, sorry for the confusion.

Dr. Kay Jamison, is a psychologist on faculty at Hopkins' Dept of Psychiatry. She has BAD and had written books about it- The Unquieted Mind. It is a great resource.

She is just saying to describe cordial and calm one minute to livid and throwing surg tools the next.
This is an unfortunate vernacular adoption by the general public. Sure what they describe is in essence bi-polar but obviously not Bipolar disorder. I think its is funny to hear people throw around other psych phrases to describe people.
Schizo
Schizoid
Psycho
Psychotic
Mental
Bipolar
Hypochondriac
OCD (especially among med students 🙄 )
Demented

I don't know how accurate this list is, but Dr. Sigmund Freud made the list.

I think that a large portion of the products and inventions we enjoy, theories we study, technological advancements are created, in large part, by bipolar people....or at least people on the bipolar spectrum.

These include everyone from Einstein, Lincoln, Beethoven, Florence Nightingale, van Gogh, most of the Hemingway family (suicides), Marilyn Monroe (admitted to Payne Whitney, and Columbia), Princess Leia, Jim Piersall, and countless others.
