So we all know that BPH causes problems with starting and stopping urinating. I'm trying to understand this mechanism. DHT acts on androgen receptors on the stroma and epithelial cells of the prostate to create hyper plastic nodules in the periurethral zone. So this acts a lot like increased afterload in the heart in that the urethra is "constricted"/compressed. This results in the difficulty urinating because you have to increase force from the detrusor muscle. This eventually leads to bladder muscle hypertrophy. My problem lies in the difficulty with stopping urinating. Is the idea this: the time of actually stopping urination compared to the dedicated time of stopping urination is delayed on account of the enormous pressure build-up within the bladder?

Not sure if that makes sense. Let me know. And thanks!

I think it is overkill to think so much, but your statement makes sense. You generated so much pressure backwards so now it's hard to stop the stream. I think questions like this are more for urology board )))
