What is the mass percent of a 1.0 m NaCl (aq) solution?

A). 5.53% NaCl by mass
B). 5.85% NaCl by mass
C). 6.22% NaCl by mass
D). 9.50% NaCl by mass

I feel silly for asking this but my question comes from figuring the total mass of the solution.

Total mass of the solution= 58.5 g NaCl + 1000 g H20

Where exactly does the 1000g H2O come from? I forgot to add in the mass of solute and arrived at answer choice B, which is incorrect.

Is it 1.0m or 1.0M? 1L H2O = 1kg H2O = 1000g H2O.

It's 1 molal so that means 1 mol for every kg of water.

So when you do mass percent you have to do mass of NaCl over mass of total solution.. Which will be the mass of NaCl plus the mass of water.. Which is 1 kg because it's 1m
