I'll be doing the 1 yr AEGD coming up soon. I was told that pretty much the only way to stay at that base is to volunteer for the brigade slot there. How long is a typical brigade assignment? After the assignment, do you typically stay at that base the remaining 1-2 years or do you have the option to be stationed elsewhere?

This is not true. It depends on where you are assigned and what the availability is that year. You would probably increase your chances of staying if you were in a desirable AEGD location (FT Lewis, Ft Carson) if you volunteered for a Brigade. Brigade assignments are 2-3 years. If there is an opening when you're due to move, you will have the option to stay at the post and transfer to the dental unit or move.
