Hi SDN,

I recently broke my pointer finger and thumb making it really hard to write. I am a bit worried about classes starting soon and me not being able to take notes at the pace I would like to.

Has anybody else had anything like this? Should I discuss this with the professor or is just not worthy?

Thx

Long time no see.

Just talk to your profs. Maybe they'll give you a copy of their lecture notes (if they don't already give that out) or give you permission to record them.

Can you type? You might be able to get an accommodation for a laptop if they are usually not allowed in class. I broke my writing hand and found that typing was a lot easier and faster than trying to write with my non-dominant hand.

Most teachers are very understanding with this sort of thing. I severely dislocated my right elbow my freshman year of college and my teachers/friends were very accommodating. I got copies of lectures notes from friends or TA's. I was allowed to take exams supervised with additional time since I had to use my left hand or take breaks from the pain. I had one professor who has a stick up his a** though. He wouldn't give me any accommodation until I went to disability services at my school and got forms signed. Its hard but you will get through it.

I'm sorry if I offend you or anybody else for that matter, but there is such thing as COMMON SENSE when it comes to these matters! Why would you even post this here, I feel like the answer is obvious.😕

If you're going to be a future doctor, why not act the part? Get some dictation software, plug in your favorite microphone, sit in your favorite chair and let it do the recordin' for you. Or hire a scribe to sit in your class and take notes for you while you lean back and enjoy your lecture, or covertly take a power nap.

Either that, or you could borrow notes from a friend.

Huh? Seems a waste to write that.

That's because you're a legend 😉

Okay, read her threads and I sincerely hope she isn't serious. Fish sticks, choosing to not have friends, reading textbook backwards....? lol wut 😕

How'd you break your fingers?

You can get a form from disability services at your college; they may be able to provide a note-taker for you 🙂 also, you can record the lectures while writing down what you can, and later write/type everything else.

My family has a minivan with auto sliding doors. I had a glove on and I was sitting inside. My brother was pulling it off but I was stupid and didn't just let him have it. Then that whole thing happened. Hurt really bad, and that was like 3 weeks ago. 🙁

Minivans are designed to break fingers, I swear. Agree with everyone else, you could also speak with disability services. They often have people who will sit in and be a scribe for you until your hand heals.
