Hi everyone,

My friend wants to take online classes to get his Pharm D. Is this a good idea? He graduated from a foreign pharmacy school with BS Pharmacy and has been practicing as a registered pharmacist for 4 years in a retail setting.

I told him he doesn't need Pharm D but he insisted that he wants to be at the same level..degree wise...with everyone else (U.S. graduates with pharm D). Should he go for it? Any advice will be appreciated.

if he's going to do retails then it does not matter. No one will care actually.

Be sure your friend understands that it's your license that is important, not your degree. He should also be aware that it will cost him 3 years of his time and about $30,000. Furthermore, it won't garner him anymore in salary. If he still wants to pursue a PharmD in light of all this information then he should go ahead and do it and not worry what anyone else thinks.

It takes 3 years to upgrade a BS Phm? Sounds like a major waste of time. I thought it was a year or so.

One of my friends mother got her PharmD in two years via taking online courses. The hospital that she worked for paid her tuition which is very nice.

Please give me details about this, I am really interested in this program

A Pharm.D. alone doesn't do anything alone you are planning to do a residency after... I wouldn't bother if you have a license and are happy with your job.

Wouldn't a B.S. Pharm be better off simply doing a residency than going back for a PharmD plus residency?
