I'd either dish out the money and live in Back Bay or move to the South End, closer to school.

I lived in Boston last year while doing a masters program at BU Med school.

I lived in Back Bay (on Beacon and Clarendon). Great area, during fall/spring I used my bike to get to campus, took about 7-10 min. During the winter I took the T (green line) to the Silver Line (which is a bus but is still considered to be part of the T-lines). The T and bus took about 20 min to get to school from Back Bay.

I t a great area, nice brownstone buildings, near to Newbery St. and the Common, the Pru and a short T ride to the Italian North End. In fact Boston is a pretty small city you but there is a lot to do. Back Bay is expensive though, right up the with the posh Beacon Hill. My 1 bedroom was $1300 and that was a steal for the area!

South End, where the school is, is cheaper and convenient for walking to school. As long as you avoid Dorchester you cant go wrong.

have fun in Boston!

When you get to Boston, try Pizzeria Regina located in the North End, the best pizza! And Giacamos also in the North End.

sorry - duplicate post

has anyone considered dexter park?

We have a few kids in our class that live there. Nice place. Kinda pricey though for a 1 bedroom. The commute to school is about 25 minutes.

The only problem that I see with Dexter Park is that you will constantly be getting cabs to go back and forth between Brookline (where Dexter Park is located) and the bars/clubs in Boston. The subway stops at 12:30 am, so if you are out later than that, you have to catch a cab home which can turn into a pain in the butt after a while. Since most of your classmates will live in the South End or Back Bay, you will be the one that is forced to meet up with them, not the other way around. So, its a great place to live, but it may be a little too far away from the Boston nightlife, if you are into that.

If you are married, I'd recommend it...if you arent, then I'd stick with South End or Back Bay. With that price, you could get yourself a place at the Church Park apartments, which are just as nice, but located in Back Bay, 10 minutes from school.

thanks for your help!

i was wondering if you know the names of any specific apartment complexes in the symphony area, within walking distance to the BU shuttle stop. Also do you know if there is a grocery store close by?

Those Church Park apartments I mentioned are near Symphony hall and Newbury street...cant really beat the location. Plus, you are a 2 minute walk from the BU shuttle and a 30 second walk from the public bus (CT1 and 1 busses). There is a Whole Foods market about 45 seconds away. On the bottom floor there are a couple places to eat, like Boston Market and something else...also a Blockbuster, dry cleaners, ATMs, hardware store, etc... The prudential center is about a 5 minute walk as well. In case you want to walk to school, it would be about a 15 minute walk. I think the website is www.churchpark.com.

I wanted to live there, but the price range was too steep for me. A studio is around 1600 a month and 1 bedrooms are 1900 and up. Thats pretty much it as far as apartment complexes located in that area...for the most part, everything is brownstone buildings. You may want to also check out some apartment complexes near the Prudential center. Im not sure if they have any names, but if you decide to come to BU, you should do the Excel program and that will also give you time to look around the area before the fall term begins.

Good luck with the search.

hey there ppl

can some one tell me how is BU as a dental school? is it good and all. wanting to apply there just want to know if i should look into it. do the students get enough experience there and go for residency programs? any kind of inof would be nice thanks

What can you guys tell me about parking at the school? How much does it cost to get a spot?

I would definitely recommend not parking at school. First, there are limited spots. Second, it costs something around 200 a month. It is much easier taking the BU shuttle or the public buses. Im not exactly sure about the price, but it is something around that figure.

Church park is so expensive! Do you think that living in Cambridge would be too far?

Yeah, I think so. A few kids in my class are doing it. I think all of them are probably moving to Boston next year. Its a long commute and you will be away from the social scene with your classmates, so it could make things difficult. However, Cambridge is very nice, so it comes down to your preferences.

If your budget for housing is 800 or less, then you can pretty much only pull that off if you have a roommate.

If your budget is 800-1200, you can get a 1 bedroom or studio in Brookline or South End.

If your budget is 1200+, you can get a 1 bedroom in Back Bay.

Thats a rough guideline/estimate of prices. There are exceptions, but this is just a generalization.
