I just started looking at apartments. Originally I was considering places within a 5 min walk to campus (so South End)
But I've been noticing there's not much in the way of grocery stores ... or even coffee shops if I feel like studying somewhere other than the library. This may be a silly question...but where do people buy groceries?? 😕
The only big one I've seen is the Shaw's at Copley but it seems a bit far...

Also I've found a place that I like but the lease doesn't start til Sept (but I need one for Aug)
so I'm considering looking into finding a place I can subletting for a month and then moving...
I'm wondering how tight the market will be if I decide to give it up and start looking again in July...? (since I know there's a housing fair at the end of the month)

Any suggestions?

My plan is to go to Excel in July and search for a place while I am there. That way, I can get a better feel for the city and make a better judgement on where to live. Im thinking Back Bay...nice place, young crowd, safe, and lots to do.

As far as groceries, I couldnt help you there. Other than cereal and peanut butter sandwiches, I suck at making food for myself. I may need to find a sugar momma to help me out in that department.

Have any of you guys receieved your financial aid package yet? I am curious as to when we are supposed to receive those. Thanks.

Play your cards right and be nice to the girls...we might cook for you once ina while 😉

I actually already found an apartment for july. Ill have time to settle in this way. I really like allston even though its far so i found a really big studio there for 900 next to commonwealth avenue where the green line is. Probably will take a good 45minutes to get to school, but ill have my car also so ill alternate sometimes as far as my commute is concerned.
As far as financial aid , i haven't received anything in the mail but i went to the financial aid website and used instructions there to fill out applications. I sent in pretty much everythig they wanted and awaiting responce from them.

hey, i'm glad you know the green line is one of the slowest lines in boston, especially after it branches off into the a,b,c,d, and e lines.....not to mention it has a lot of twists and turns, bring your barf bag if you need it 🙂

also note that for the next three years, the orange line shuts down at 9pm north of sullivan station. so DO NOT LIVE UP THERE.

my best advice is live close to school as possible, you wont regret it. so i guess for bu that means south end or perhaps bay village

i rarely go down to the bu area, but the few times i was there i remember a little grocery store around campus, maybe i'm wrong.

best bet is to email a few bu students and ask them... good luck

What? Once in a while?????? More like every night!!!

Haha, just kidding. I'd appreciate any kind of charitable contributions to my stomach.

I gave lots of info in this thread. Post if you have questions.

BTW, C, D, E green lines are fine but I'd avoid the B line if you like to keep your commute to under 1 hour.

i went to talk to the fin aid people on monday to see if there were any problems with my file etc. basically, i wanted to go over any info they could give me.
but all they could tell me was that they had received it, but it hadn't been processed yet. they would mail/e-mail me if anything was missing, and then it would go to a committee to determine what i'd be eligible for.

i don't know if everyone is on a different timeline (since i only sent mine in a few weeks ago) but if they're looking at them all around the same time, then that's all the info i could get from them right now.
