anyone go thru this program and completed AMCAS? Broitman (and the rest of folks in GMS) have emphasized to us that the classes we take in the BU MAMS program are SCIENCE. but if they're not going to be calculated with your BCPM, why bother? I mean, these are grad school courses......they aren't calculated into the BCPM right?????

anyone clarifY?

To improve your BCPM undergraduate GPA, you need to take more upper division undergraduate BCPM courses so taking graduate science courses at BU will not improve this GPA. It will affect your graduate GPA. I haven't done an AMCAS application, but I am planning on applying to BU as well. The point of going through a program like this is to prove that you can handle the advanced coursework even though it will not improve your undergraduate GPA. In this program, you will take medical school courses with first year medical students so even though your college GPA will not be improved by your performance, if you excel in these courses, it will look impressive on your resume and perhaps be a better indicator (than your undergraduate GPA) of your performance in medical school. Hope this helps. I haven't started on my BU application yet so I might be of more help later on.

this may be a dumb question, but what does SMP stand for?

BCMP gpa, like AO (all other) and Total GPA, is reported for post-bac undergraduate, cumulative undergraduate and graduate grades. So your graduate science classes are segregated from the undergrad classes, but your BCMP gpa in them is still reported.

Even though graduate science classes are not computed with your BCMP gpa, science classes at an SMP confer a particular luster to your application that no undergraduate biochem or microbiology course can provide. These are actual med school classes that are very impressive to have on your transcript (if you do well). Keep that in mind.
