Hi Guys!

I am just wondering if anyone has any input on these two schools. I am still in the process of deciding where to go between these two. So far, I would say that I really like that BU is located in Boston but I feel Case's clinical education is a bit superior to BU's. However, I am not really into Cleveland. Also, I have heard that BU does have some problems with getting patients and chairs, not sure how much of it is really an issue or is it just exaggeration.

Any input or advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How was your view of the school? Was it a nice campus? Do the students seem happy? I have an interview coming up, and I was really excited initially. But since doing my research on sdn, I've been a bit apprehensive because of sooooo much BU bashing. 🙁. I'm still going to the interview to check the school out and make my own decisions based on how the interview experience goes, but it was kinda a bummer to see so many negative views on BU.

I don't think the Case students were any more happier than the BU students. To be honest, the students who took us on the tour at Case were kind of quiet so I don't really feel "their passion". However, it does seem that Case clinical was a bit better. BU clinic was not very busy and when I asked their students why that was, they replied that it was because they are not allowed to use the clinic when they have class, don't know how much truth there is to this. The fact that BU gets a lot of bashing on SDN is a bit of a bummer since it does influence my opinion a bit even though I think you can still get a decent education there.

I was accepted at both of these schools as well. I really liked BU when I went to visit. The staff was friendly and the students seemed really happy. But on the day I went there were zero patients there! I saw empty waiting rooms...not sure why. So that worried me a bit. I asked the fourth year students if they felt they had to continue on to do a residency afterward, and they all said yes--which I didn't hear at other schools (unless people were planning on specializing). All the BU students I connected with online told me to choose another Boston school if I had the chance. This thread from a current BU grad may help answer some questions:http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=976532

As for Case...the only thing I didn't like about this school is the dental school building itself. The lecture halls are dated, I remember there not being enough windows and stuff...but at the end of the day, none of that should really matter. Case has an excellent clinical reputation. You get your own chair so it will feel like you have your own little practice. The staff and faculty member I interviewed with were awesome. And the students seemed really happy with the curriculum and support they get there.

As for Boston vs Cleveland....I lived in Boston four years. I love Boston. It's a fun city. I've also been to Cleveland a lot because I have family there. People make fun of Cleveland, but I actually really like it a lot. And I've lived in really cool cities all over the world, so I feel like I can judge. There's actually a lot to do in Cleveland, and cost of living is significantly lower. Both cities get lots of snow, though 🙁

Good luck with your decision! PM me if I can answer anything else for you.

Thanks for the reply. 🙂. I've also read that BU is aware of its problems and is taking actions to fix them. Good luck with the decision.

they are aware of the problem but fixing it is another story. We will know by 2015 (when we start clinical)... do u want to be their guinea pig? read the recent BU grad thread. He says they just implemented an online system based on patient scheduling and that stuff is old news compared to NYU and others.
