Would it be possible to do one year worth of classes and do one year of research while applying to med school? Based on my reading:

1) BU:
thesis: required
Med school classes: how many ??????
GPA/MCAT cutoffs: a little flexible

2) Georgetown:
Thesis: library research thesis
Med school classes: five
GPA/MCAT cutoffs: not flexible

Also, GT requires 27 MCAT which I do not have. I really doubt I can get any much higher than 27-28 this April (that would be my 4th time taking MCAT). So I am trying not to take the test till I am sure I can break 30.

Not exactly sure what you are asking.

The GT SMP only last one year anyway and you are encouraged to apply within that year. Those who don't get in on that year usually would go work in jobs such as research and apply the next year. And my understanding is that library thesis thing is not particularly onerous. I think GT is pretty firm on the 27 MCAT unless other aspects of your applications really shine.

I heard that BU's program is two years long and has more flexibility in term of schedule. The second year is a set up as a research year.

Yeah, Georgetown is one year, while most of the students do the BU program in 2 years. Even though the BU program's MCAT/GPA cutoffs are a little more flexible it's still super competitive to get in to, more so in the past couple of years. If you're just under a 27, and with a decent GPA you'll probably be ok. If you're quite a bit below a 27 then I don't know. A good friend of mine that did the BU program and is now at BU Med told me that the average GPA/MCAT for the program for this year's entering class was 3.2 and 28 MCAT. Take it for what it's worth.
