  1. Pre-Dental
Hey knowledgeable people out there. I wanted to hear some thoughts on which of these three schools prepare their students the best for clinical dentistry. Was accepted to all three but I'd like to hear some first hand experience if possible before making a decision. Lecom is the cheapest of these three but is the price reduction really worth it? I really appreciate your input.

The mantra I've learned in my short time here is as follows:

If thou shall pay for Dental School with loans,
Thou shall proceed to the cheapest dental school,
Or else thou shall be condemned to debt for decades.

Define 'the cheapest', here. Is cost of attendance (not just tuition and fees) between all three drastically different? And by how much? I agree with going with the cheapest option, as long as there are drastic savings. If it came down to what might be a couple thousand dollars, it's worth entertaining . The schools are all pretty different.

Just my two cents, but I think LECOM (close second being Midwestern) out of those options. They have an amazing clinical education especially since they don't have residency programs due to their goal of creating "general dentists". I heard bad things about BU clinically because there's two other dental schools in the area that they have to compete with for their patient pool.

Right but it is sooo concerning to me that LECOM only has two years in. Who knows what the clinical experience is going to be like the 3rd and 4th year especially with having to relocate to a different clinic your entire 4th year (and one of those options is to Erie, PA!). I thought Lecom did a great job selling their program at the interview day but all in all, it's going to be a gamble to go there. Also, do you think there is something to be said about having BU behind you when looking for a job after dental school? Is that something that is even an issue in the dental field (attending school at an old and reputable program?) And lastly, I've heard that BU's "clinical issues" have been worked out and all the mutter on SDN is for nothing... All three schools did such a good job selling their programs. They all seem to be great programs. Which can pose issues when trying to choose only one!

When I worked it out, it became evident to me that LECOM is going to be more expensive by about 50K total after all four years. That number was found looking at (estimates of) ALL expenses included (living, tuition, equipment, etc)

Yup that was a big typo....Meant to say that Lecom would be at least 50K less* expensive than BU and even a greater value when comparing MW.
