In the medical school application process, what all are you paying for and how much is the associated cost? Let's assume that I am applying to 15 DO schools.

Does it look something like this?

Primaries - x dollars
Secondaries - x dollars
Traveling expenses for potential interviews - x dollars

Anything else?

MCAT, MCAT books, a nice suit, and hopefully only one deposit to a school (usually to the tune of a stack or two).

Some people get stuck in the unfortunate position of having to put down the deposit at a lower-ranked school by a deadline while they wait to hear news from their top choice, only to be accepted later and have to pay another deposit.

How about the MCAT costs...prep course and to register for the test itself (multiple times for some)?

There's time off from work.

Interfolio costs add up, as well as postage for paper secondaries.

If you don't have good interview attire, that will cost a bit as well.

But, in the end, I think the major cost will come from traveling expenses, especially if you have a lot of interviews. Don't make the same mistake as me and book non-refundable tickets months in advance. The price doesn't seem to get that much more expensive when you book closer to the travel date. This will give you the flexibility to cancel (or at least change) your interview later on.

My MDapps profile has my costs for this cycle so far <-------------

Yep. Do all your calculations based on the numbers and than add 30%. it sucks how much this costs and I only attended two of my interviews.

I'd say it's safe to say costs are about $3000-$3500 before any interviews. Interviews add anywhere from $200-600 per interview depending on how far you have to travel, cost of area, food, drycleaning, etc.

Thank you everyone for the responses.

When you say "a stack or two," you mean 1-2 thousand dollars?
