In the interview invite email, Buffalo mentions...

Your interview day will include a traditional interview with Student Admissions Committee members, and a separate 10 minute case scenario discussion.

Does anyone have any more information on that? What is a case scenario discussion exactly? Is it a "what would you do in this scenario" type of thing?

Yes sir, it's a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Brown.

You are called during your turn into his office and given a paragraph case scenario to read. You finish reading it and discuss with him how you feel about the situation. He may ask you certain questions based on your response so it all kind of varies. Very relaxed environment, just be honest and treat it like a conversation. Also, topics vary so don't freak out about not knowing what it is!

Good luck 🙂

it doesn't necessarily have to be Dr.Brown, when I did my interview, I had him, but other students had different people for the case scenario.

Sounds stressful. Lol.

Do you have a potential example of something that it could be? For example, could it be something like "A patient walks into your office and wants you to pull out perfectly healthy teeth for such and such a reason..." and then you have to respond to it?

Last year I had something along the lines of how would you react if patients were coming to you bad mouthing the dentist down the street because the other dentist was perscribing his patients natural remedies.

Haha. I'm sitting here imagining myself reading that during an interview. I can't even come up with anything off the top of my head now, never mind sitting there under pressure. How would I react??

Ummm, let's see here. I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. I'd tell the patient they have a choice of who they want to go to for their treatment, and that if they feel natural treatment remedies weren't giving them the results they wanted, that they could come to me for a consult if they'd like. Unless I knew this dentist personally, or if I did a lot of business with them, I don't think it would be my responsibility to contact them and ask them what they were doing with their patients.

Ya, I think they basically wanted you to react in a way that wouldn't bash somone else in the profession. It was really relaxed.

What if you added that you would also call the dentist to hear if he had anything to say? Would that be going too far? Not the same situation but a dentist I shadow told me about a patient who came to him with a half done job and was bad mouthing his previous dentist. Well the dentist I shadow ended up calling the other dentist and it turned out the guy threw a fit and walked out in the middle of the procedure.

Do you have anymore examples? I didn't apply this year but I like reading stuff like this so I can think about what I would say.
