I just got back from Buffalo today and I have to say although it snowed the whole time, I really feel that it is a livable place. I went to Niagara Falls, downtown, and around the area and it was actually a lot better than I had hoped. Downtown has a street called Elmwood ave which has lots of good restaurants, bars, shops, and parks. There are also a bunch of houses in that area that were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that look really interesting. In the summer and spring there are lots of free concerts and even shakespeare. Buffalo definitely has a lot of character. Niagara falls was very snowy and chilly, but there are tons of hotels and nice casinos on both sides of the river. It took about 20 minutes to go from downtown to the Canadian border. It was really quick and easy to get around because the roads are well designed and everything is pretty close together. The cost of living is really low; average home price is $120,000. Buffalo seemed to have a decent mass transit system; there is a subway and lots of buses. Anyway, it was a good trip and I feel much more comfortable in my choice to go there, especially since the summer and spring there are supposed to be beautiful. Oh yeah, it even has a Bikrams yoga. If you want to see the pictures i took, PM me and I will send them to you through snapfish.com, a photosharing website.

Oldboy,
Sweet post... I should have probably applied there. So are you sold on Buffalo? What if UConn comes knocking in the next few months? You'll do great wherever. OMFS could use a personality like yours! 😎

SO nice to hear! I agreed that on my interview, the weather was really aesthetic (I love cold and sunny, being a New England girl) and you can't beat Niagara Falls! It's funny...all the students were talking about Elmwood as *the* place to live...it's good that it lives up to expectations!

I'm going again in a few weeks and bringing my parents along. It looks like I'll definitely be there in the fall, so I just want to get a better feel and actually see some classrooms!! (We didn't get to on our tour)

And for a girl who grew up in a rural Massachusetts town of 6000 people, ANY city that has a symphony, art museum, zoo, and tons of clubs and concerts is enough culture and excitement for me! 😀 😀

I don't know what I would do if UCONN comes knocking. In some respects they have a leg up on Buffalo, but in most aspects they are definitely the lesser of the two. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

UCONN has a much more intensive program that has a higher specialization rate. Hartford however, is a dump. There is nothing going on in or around Farmington and clinically, I thought Buffalo looked a lot better. Buffalo's facilities were really nice and the cost of living in Buffalo is much less than in Farmington or the surrounding areas, unless you want to live in Hartford...no thanks. After tallying up all the pros and cons of both schools I felt, for me, that UCONN was the lesser of the two. It's kind of like choosing between the escalade on stocks or the escalade on dubs. Holla
