could anyone offer any advice regarding the mandatory research time (several months to a year) that some residency programs require? i have heard that, with diligence, the majority of radonc clinical material can be learned in as little as 3 years.
i have some concerns regarding this sacrifice of clinical training for research time. from my perspective clinical training will always be useful, but the success/benefit of research depends quite a bit on luck (especially with basic and bench research).
also, how have previous holman trainees performed as far as obtaining R01s and other competitive funding?
