The president of the AOA paid us a visit here at NSU one day, and specifically said that membership in the AOA is NOT required in order to match into an osteopathic residency.

That's pre-med mentality..in the medical world despite the ego's everyone knows and understands that a physician is a physician. Once you are working in whatever speciality all the stigma will disappear..its a matter of time when the common man gets the idea. I wouldn't give it too much weight if someone brings up a DO vs MD debate..get through med school and become the best doc you could be..
The OP was curious about the subjective evaluation of "subtle disadvantages" as perceived by the interviewee. If that sentence doesn't sound to have any inkling of subjectivity, then I don't know what does. IMO, a non-sequitur thought to be had when one is at the point of being interviewed at the program in question.
I've heard that about some MD schools. Texas Tech comes to mind. But if you take care of business, no matter where you're in school, you will create the opportunities you want.
I swear I continue to get hate mail about me having an opinion about PSCOM. I just have an "opinion" and nothing more. The mere fact that I have dozens upon dozens of IMs regarding a couple of posts is amazing. For months people have continued to respond.
PSCOM has the most intense, devoted, and zealous student body in the history of medicine. In no uncertain terms should this ever be doubted!
I'm even getting mail at my house. In fact, on the way to school I noticed a few pickup truck with Pike County plates following me.
Sheeshhh, give it a rest. Stalemate, I surrender, white flag....peace......anything. I give up.
